Even though spring hasn’t fully arrived yet, March is an exciting time in the farming world. Farmers are busy planning their crops, starting seedlings, and preparing for the growing season ahead. It’s also the time of year when CSA sign-ups open, a wonderful opportunity for our community to connect more deeply with the farms that grow our food.
What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, a program that allows customers to purchase a share of a farm’s harvest at the beginning of the season. In return, members receive a regular supply of fresh, seasonal produce throughout the growing season.
Joining a CSA is one of the most direct ways to support local farmers. By signing up early in the year, members help farmers cover upfront costs like seeds, equipment, and labor. In return, you receive a steady supply of farm-fresh vegetables and often discover new varieties and flavors along the way.
Many CSA members say it also helps them eat more seasonally, cook more at home, and try new recipes with ingredients they might not normally pick up.
CSA Options from Our Yardley Farmers’ Market Farms
We are fortunate to have several incredible farmers at the Yardley Farmers’ Market who offer CSA programs.
Abe’s Acres Farm - A longtime favorite at the market, Abe’s Acres offers a diverse selection of seasonal vegetables grown with care and attention to quality. Their CSA is a great way to enjoy a wide range of fresh produce throughout the season.
Love Grows Farm - Known for beautiful seasonal produce, Love Grows provides CSA members with thoughtfully grown vegetables that reflect the best of each season.
Solly Farms - A Bucks County farming institution, Solly Farms offers CSA shares featuring their locally grown produce and decades of farming experience.
Each farm structures their CSA a little differently, including share sizes, pickup locations, and season length, so we encourage you to visit their individual websites to learn more and find the option that works best for you. Visit the websites for Abe’s Acres Farm, Love Grows Farm, and Solly Farm to learn more about their programs and sign up for the upcoming season.
