August 6 kicks off National Farmers’ Market week!

Over the past couple years, our farmers’ market community has continued to showcase adaptability in our rapidly changing world. In the past year, we’ve experienced a global pandemic, extreme heat, and wildfires to name a few! While farmers markets have always been essential to our local food systems, in this moment of widespread changes, we want to also recognize the ways in which farmers’ markets are essential tools for shaping our worlds, and how they bring about important opportunities for us to learn, grow and work together. More than ever, we need places where people can come together. Farmers’ markets are designed in partnership with the people they serve, creating a space where market operators, farmers, shoppers, and neighbors can collaborate to meet the needs of our community.

National Farmers’ Market week is an occasion to highlight how farmers’ markets are changing the way we eat, shop, connect, and more! We are beyond excited to be able to accept SNAP EBT at our market and thanks to our generous sponsor, St. Andrew’s Church, we are able to match SNAP purchases, dollar for dollar up to $20. In addition, our three PA farmers accept Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP & SFMNP) vouchers. Through these programs, we are able to help our neighbors bring more healthy food into their homes and support our local farmers and producers with an additional income sources; truly a Win-Win! We also continue to support and collaborate with our fellow community groups, like the Yardley Parks and Recreation Board and the Lion’s Club, to improve the health and well being of our beautiful Yardley community.

What can you do to help support farmers’ markets and celebrate National Farmers’ Market week? Continue to shop at the market and show your support for our wonderful farmers and producers! We also love to see your beautiful haul each week and all the goodies that you’re cooking up. Be sure to share those on social media and tag Yardley Farmers’ Market in your post! Thank you for your continuous support and see you at the market!
